Dear Incoming Pre-Calculus Students,
We hope after reading each bulleted item, the words of advice will serve you well. We wish you continued success in Pre-Calculus throughout the school year. Good luck and stay studious!
~Pre-Calculus Students 2015-16
- Know your Algebra. That is key to surviving pre-calculus. If you do your work every day and study then you can pass the class with an A. As a straight A student, believe me...don't take pre-calculus for granted. Everyone can achieve just as long as they are determined. To be honest, I was at times stressed out, but nonetheless I loved this class. Also, make sure to ask questions. Please don't be intimidated to do so. Don't be afraid to get the wrong answer...like me. Don't take it the wrong way...pre-calculus is not "so easy" however it can be if you understand the material, ask questions, and do your work. Always get a good amount of sleep at home so you can be prepared for class. Best of luck to all of you taking this class. I know you can do it!
- Honestly kids, do you homework. It doesn't matter if you'll "catch up during the weekend", we all know you won't. Once you don't do one assignment, it snowballs into multiple assignments and now it's the end of the unit and you're sitting and wondering what you did wrong. It was the homework. So do your homework every day no matter what. It's better safe than sorry.
- I suggest you drop the class because if you think memorizing your time tables wait until you have to memorize the unit circle in order to apply it with the actual pre-calculus problems.
- Ask for help as soon as you don't understand something because if you don't it's never going to get easier.
- DON'T take the class if you don't do homework assignments because it will just affect you. Also don't take pre-calculus just because it's going to look good on your resume.
- Hello precalc student, you won the teacher lottery! You're probably in class thinking about how everyone says precalc is hard but it's really not that bad! The fact that you'll have the best precalc teacher helping you out is already putting you ahead, but there's one thing you should really focus on to pass the class, and that's to grind out the assignments. Do ALL your homework, and do your study guides about 10 times. That's something Mr. B will tell you a lot, because many times the people who don't do their homework just fail the unit. Think through the homework, do your study guides ten times and listen to Mr. B. You'll pass.
- First of all, DO NOT take pre-calculus if you are unsure if you want to take it or not. Not only does it waste the teachers', counsellors and your own time, but many kids could be rejected entry due to full classes. But if you do end up taking precalc, here's a few words of advice: precalc involves a TON of algebra. Thought the course I thought of it as advanced algebra 2.0 with a few new calculus approach to spice things up. But don't get me wrong; it is still a difficult class! But there are ways to make it easier than it is and get you on a path towards succeeding. ALWAYS be in class--don't ditch. If you're sick but you're still able to go to school, then go! Trust me, you'd be surprised at how much you miss in just one day. DO ALL YOUR HW. Not only do you get points for doing it, you also get everyday practice to prepare you for the quiz and/or test. Last but not least, COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR TEACHER. Ask questions, man! If you don't understand something do not be shy to ask. If you feel that you don't like your teacher (as many of my classmates felt)
- Studying and doing your homework is a good way to survive pre-calc. However, there's also putting effort into your work from the beginning till the end. Do not procrastinate and try to fix your grade at the very last minute. "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail."
- Do all your homework and if you miss a day, try to catch up because you will fall behind if you don't show up. It’s important to remember the material that was learned in past experiences as all types of math, whether it be from 3rd grade or 9th grade, it comes into play in this class. It's very important to do your homework as you need all the practice you can have as you need to be able to master the subject and be able to replicate it in the ever important quizzes and stressful tests.
- Don't wait till the next test to raise your grade. Always retake test that you didn't get the grade you wanted.
- Number one piece of advice for Pre-Calculus students is to be prepared to have homework every night and make sure to set some time apart for it. But ultimately don't stress out it's not as bad as it seems.
- Always do your homework.
- Always retake every single quiz and test, don't miss a day!
- Always go over your notes before a test, the retake is always harder. Guessing isn't going to help you in the test you have to show your work.
- Never say "when's the retake?"
- Try not to miss class because the curriculum goes very fast and do all your homework because that’s the only way you'll understand the content.
- Don't fall asleep in class. Pay attention to the notes and if you fall behind catch up your work because if you don’t you won't understand the unit or possibly the next units.
- If you don't plan on getting a math major and aren't good at math I do not recommend this class. Although it's not an AP class there is homework every day and it's necessary to get it done because it's great help. Stay organized because you're going to need to refer to them all the time.
- Do your homework. Take your sweet ass time doing it too, don't just rush through it unless you really know what you're doing. Don't go online and find the answers there just to copy them, analyze the answers that you find and make sure that you know what's going on. Ask questions in class. Good luck!!!
- Do your HOMEWORK! It helps you further prepare for the quizzes and tests, so do not gloss over them! Also, organize your binder. Nothing sucks more than trying to find your notes and study guides for your current unit while having to filter out old ones.
- If you do not really enjoy the intense atmosphere of Mathematics, DO NOT take Pre-Calculus because it is definitely going to make or break your entire junior year. Pre-Calculus is preparation for Calculus; so, if you already know that you will not choose to take Calculus during your senior year, make the right decision. Be kind to your mental health and your GPA.
- If you feel like you don't understand something and are afraid to ask your teacher questions go to the other math teachers, they are all more than willing to help.
- Make sure to do the homework. It gets you far. Make sure not to miss a day because it will feel like you have been for a year. If you don't understand anything at all don't be scared to ask, you'll be lost for the entire unit if you don't understand one part. If this doesn’t seem worthwhile then you should run and not look back. But good luck if you actually want to take this class!
- Ask questions! If you don't understand something completely, then just ask. In precalc, there are no stupid questions.
- Don't procrastinate.
- Honestly, do your homework. Pay attention in class, and learn the patterns! You'll be fine as long as you actually try. The subjects that look the hardest are probably the easiest. Don't slack off!
- Pre-calculus isn't hard as long as you do your homework and pay attention. Study for test and quizzes so that you pass them and not worry about retakes. Keep a good grade so that when finals come around you don't stress so much about it. Ask for help when you don't understand something.
- When studying for tests don't just look over the study guide, actually rewrite and redo the questions.
- As a precalc student I recommend that doing your homework I's necessary even if you know what tour doing really well. Homework is helpful to get a deeper understanding if you don't really get the concept. Also when taking tests it is also best to really do the study guide because they help especially on tests
- If you're taking precal make sure you're going to be committed. Committed on doing homework, studying, taking your time to understand the subject. If you’re not willing to put your all in that class, then don't take it.
- Don't take the class if you're not good at algebra or remembering functions because there's a lot of that. Also I recommend taking college algebra trig. If you don't feel comfortable taking a hard class. It's nearly the same but it moves slower so it's easier for you to understand. Overall, don't take of you don't have the right mindset or if you don't wanna cry. Have a good year :)
- To all future pre-calc students, do not listen to those who say that pre-calc is the hardest class ever and just give up on it. You'll realize this class is actually pretty easy if you pay attention, do your work, study, and persevere through the hard moments. Nothing in life is easy. I know you will do great!
- Do your homework because that prepares you reinforces what you learned in class. It also boosts up your grade up for the unit so do your homework.
- Every time I was stuck on a problem on my homework assignment, I would try it out and check my answer on slader.com they have the problems with work shown step by step. I would recommend to only use the website to see how to work out a problem and to check your own work. Do not just copy or it will affect you when it's time for the test.
- Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT treat the class like any of your previous math classes. This class is one of the hardest courses to take in the school. If your work ethic is one where you give up when you're faced with a hard problem then this is not the course for you. You have to dedicate your whole year to this class, and that includes retaking, studying, and asking a boatload of questions. Now, this class is not impossible. If you try hard and you do your work and study then you should be fine and average at the very least maybe a high C or B, depending on how you study. This class is not impossible, your work ethic and you in general is what makes the class hard for yourself.
- When you are absent or choose not to show up one day remember to always ask for help or go online to the website because if you don't you will be lost and left behind.
- Listen to Mr. B, he knows everything.
- Do not rely on the Internet all the time.
- Be here every day because the class moves faster than the slope of my grade falling.
- Never underestimate the difficulty level of quizzes and tests. Unless you're a math god, you have to study for these assessments because they are worth 90% of your grade. Do not be intimidated by this class, if you do the work and pay attention to your teachers, you will be just fine. Best of luck! -Yoselin Castillo p.s. Mr. B and Mr. Horvath are amazing teachers ❤
- Make sure to do all your work and turn it in on time. If you don’t, then you’re really gonna struggle getting your grade back up. Trust me, I learned the hard way.
- If you are going in to precalc stay on top of your work, and always take the opportunity to retake a quiz or test if you know you could do better. Ask questions and seek help, that's why teachers are here.
- Make sure you are always on top of your assignments because although they are only a formative assessment, they can bump your grade up if you didn’t do so well on a quiz or test. Also homework serves as practice and if you don’t practice you will perform poorly on tests.
- Take advantage of retakes because they can really improve your grade and overall your GPA.
- Attend class regularly. Take all the notes given and if you didn't do so well on a unit, GO TO THE MATH LAB.
- Ask questions when confused, do your homework to understand each unit, pay full attention in class and study instead of playing video games the day before a test!
- I would say to make sure you go to class every day. Why? Because in order for you to understand or comprehend every sheet of note you have to come to class to understand the way it's explained. If you really can't make it to class then make sure to come in after school to talk to your pre-calc teacher and ask them for explanation. Also make sure to turn in all your homework on time and do it every night. Not only does it go for a grade but it also helps you summarize that day's lesson and it helps towards the unit exam. Good luck to all the incoming pre-calc students & I don't regret a thing so hopefully you won't either!
- DON'T MISS CLASS CUZ NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU'LL BE CALCULATING THE DOWNHILL SLOPE OF YOUR GRADE.
- Make sure to do your own practice and studying at home. You won’t always understand all the concepts the way the teacher shows them so try to look up videos and web pages that will help you learn. If those don’t help ask your teacher for help, that’s what they are here for.
- NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THIS COURSE! I felt so comfortable coming in my first day of Pre-Calculus. I never knew what was coming my way. Had a rough start but I managed to get through it. An important piece of advice for incoming students is that every single homework should be done. Don't be lazy and not do it. Homework is given because it's practice. If you don't, day of the quiz or test, you won't be prepared. If you get a grade you don't like on a quiz or test, and you know you can do better, RETAKE IT. Opportunities are given to you so you should take advantage! I really did struggle throughout the whole year. Ups and downs on every unit. Don't give up. Some units will come easy to you but some won't. Always be prepared. There's a quote on Mr. Horvath's room which says, "You hit home runs not by chance, but by preparation." This is absolutely true. I was rarely prepared when I should've been ready for anything. If I can redo this whole year of Pre-Calculus, I would. Opportunities were given, but I didn't take advantage. Don't make the same mistakes as me. Good Luck! -J.O
- Well welcome to pre-calc!!I In the beginning you're going to think is easy but once your more into the class it gets hard. Well not hard but you just need to learn a lot of things and sometimes you may think that you aren't going to be able to do it but you just have to study a lot and not give up. YOU CAN DO IT!
- Do your homework because at the end of the semester your grade will be impacted. If you are aiming for the B or A you have to do your homework no matter how tedious it may be. The homework given really does help you learn the concepts.
- Complete all your homework assignments and ask for help if you need it! It's important to complete all your homework assignments so you can better understand the topic and also get that extra practice. It's also important to ask for help of you need it because some topics are challenging and it's better to ask for help when needed instead of waiting towards the end once you begin learning new things. It's difficult when you don't understand a certain topic and the next topic ties in with it, so if you need help don't be afraid to ask!
- DO YOUR HOMEWORK because by doing so you are preparing yourself for the upcoming tests and quizzes and you are gaining more practice!
- The retakes are harder, so study the first time around!
- ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Not as easy to catch up as your other classes.
- 1. Practice, Practice, Practice! 2. Do All Homework! 3. Try Your Hardest In This Class!
- Be confident in your abilities. I began to do well in the class when I stopped doubting myself and second-guessing myself.
- Don't be absent too much. Take advantage of what Mr. B has to offer. He puts up answers for you to study off but not to copy. He suggests that you look up answers to know if you got it right and if you are doing it right. Also if you fail or get a low score on a test, retake the test…take advantage of second opportunities.
- Don't let yourself fall behind. Mr. B does a good job of scheduling make up days for test and quizzes. If you do fall behind take advantage of those days.
- DO THE HOMEWORK. Doing the homework not only allows you to apply the concepts learned in class, but it also serves as a continued practice of application to prepare you for tests and quizzes. Practice makes perfect, and if I would've regularly done my homework, I would've had a grade a whole lot better than what I had this year.
- Hey it's Perla, please do your homework and pay attention during class. The homework will help you a lot!!
- Students, do not SLACK off in this class. It will bite you in the butt sooner or later.
- Dear student, if you ever have a question about something you don't get, don't be afraid to ask Mr. B because he will gladly help you.
- I think one advice I would give to incoming students would be do all your homework and don’t be afraid to ask questions because it's helps a lot when you don't get something.
- Take advantage of the opportunity to retake and do corrections because it's a great way to keep up your grade.
- Struggle through the work because that's how you're going to learn. It's going to be hard but the key is to not give up. Keep up with your work! Trust me. Also, Mr. B is usually always available after school for help so don't forget about that.
- Show every step for the test and do your homework because not doing so will make it harder to pass.
- If you don't understand something stay after school and get help! It will come back to bite you if don't understand things because then you will get behind.
- Hello students, please do your homework and pay attention during classes! It helps A LOT IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
- Study before taking a test because it helps a lot to achieve a better grade.
- Do your homework, if you don't do it you will not fully understand the unit. You make think it is just taking up your time but not doing your homework will only hurt you. It a crucial part of pre-calc because it helps you understand and practice the material.
- You must find what you love in every unit, and use that as the driving force to motivate you to do well in every aspect of the class.
- Pay absolute attention to the lesson being taught. Leave your worries and thoughts about any other classes at the door and be prepared to focus completely on the lesson, which makes the rest much easier.
- Stay focused and study leading up to the exam…you'll come to realize study guide problems are similar to the problems on the exam. And DON’T slack off.
- Don't be afraid to retake stuff but don't take advantage, try to get it right the first time because the retakes are harder.
- Stay on top of your work and complete all of the homework, it really helps. If you follow Mr.B's guidelines and schedule you'll do just fine.
