Dear Incoming Pre-Calculus Students,
We hope after reading each bulleted item, the words of advice will serve you well. We wish you continued success in Pre-Calculus throughout the school year. Good luck and stay studious!
~Pre-Calculus Students 2017-18
- Do your homework every day. Doing homework is key, it will not only improve your grade but you will practice and things will just stick in your head much better. If you don't do your homework, you won’t remember how to do the problems and your grade will drop. Trust me I tried both things and doing my homework is really helpful.
- First things first, this is going to be a difficult course. However, that shouldn’t be discouraging. If you work hard you can obtain the grade you want. It’s easy to slack off and not do any of the homework or simply copy it. Yet, that’s basically setting yourself up for failure. At times it can be really hard but you shouldn’t give up in the beginning b/c it’s just a matter of adjusting to the class, but with the right work ethic and effort everything should be fine. Once in a while the grades you get can be something you’re not used to getting but there are always retakes and Mr. B is the best and is always willing to help. NEVER be afraid to ask questions, and NEVER be afraid to seek help from Mr. B. He is always more than happy to help. You guys will do great!! Best of luck!
- Don’t copy homework because you will never learn anything. Also go to the math lab, even if you don’t fully get the work it’s still super helpful.
- Do ALL your hw!!!!! Pay attention to class because every day you learn some new. Don’t slack off from the beginning. GOOD LUCK PRE CAL IS ONE OF THE BEST CLASS.
- Memorize the unit circle! Know it! It is a must do.
- Pay attention in class, it will make homework so much easier. Don’t take the teachers for granted because they are here to teach you the best way they can.
- ALWAYS check your notation. Notation is key, even if it looks insignificant. It may be the difference between an A or B.
- When you do homework, take a quiz and a test, make sure you always take your time on those things because when you concentrate, you can start thinking more on your math problems and use your notation to increase your understanding, and your chance to get good grades.
- Pre-calculus is a class that might seem rigorous, but it will not be if you practice. Studying might feel boring; however that is the key to succeeding. Remember to not over study things because there is no point on stressing that bright brain of yours. Don't rely on the retake, but do use it to improve your score. You want to get your grade as high as possible before finals.
- Pay attention in class because each class hour is valuable. The key to passing is to actually doing your homework so that you understand how to do the math. Don’t be afraid to seek help from the teacher because they are there to help and teach you.
- Make sure you guys pay attention in class for proper notation. Do your homework. Make sure to follow along class lessons all the time. AND REMEMBER, PROPER NOTATION OR NO NOTATION!
- I thought homework wasn't going to be problem, but man, was I wrong. If you want the A, then do the homework. They only put in 3 grades, so if you don't do something to the best of your abilities, it'll come back to bite you in the buttocks. I slacked off and barely passed with a B. I want to say that I would go back in time and do the homework, but I am very lazy. Don't make my mistakes.
- Do your bloody homework on time! It doesn't matter if you get some wrong what matters is that you completed it! It’s such an easy grade for each unit plus a great way to study! Also pay attention since day one because in Precalc it is ALL connected not one lesson is useless. (lol don’t be like me?)
- If you can’t understand all the material then stay afterschool THAT DAY because if you miss out on some info it'll all pile up on you and its hard working from behind.
- Do your homework. Trust me it helps, I never did it and I personally regret not doing my homework as I failed the class because of it. Also always take whatever help the teacher offers, because cause it's not always gonna be there for you. The teachers obviously know more than you and in my case Mr. B really helped dumb it down. Just know that no matter how much you hate math or how much you think you suck at it, you can succeed.
- I would say to get through is to not slack off. One day, it'll bite you in the butt if u do so.
- Study. Seriously, do it. You'll regret not doing it. Thinking you can pass the class without studying the mass of information is a fallacy.
- You are the only thing that can hold you back. Ships are safe in a harbor, but that's not what they are meant for.
- For anyone entering Pre-Calculus I advise one thing and one thing only. That is vital to ALWAYS. DO. YOUR. HOMEWORK. DESPITE. THE. LEVEL. OF. DIFFICULTY. Homework is very important in this class, you can’t snooze on the homework and do amazing on the test, you HAVE to try your best in every assignment in order to succeed in class.
- One piece of advice for to the incoming students to succeed in this course is to use all of their resources for studying and learning. Actually do the problems not copying from the back of the book. Paying close attention in class and DON’T miss a lot of days b/c you will miss so much information in one day. Good Luck!
- Always do your homework. It will help you understand better with the extra practice you get.
- One thing to always do to be successful in this class is to do your homework, it is crucial practice to be able to pass this class.
- If your an average student like I am your not getting that "A" that you say you wanted. Most likely a "C" or "low B" is the best you might get. And make sure you pay attention to these things it might help, and ask for help at any time, no shame in asking even for something simple.
- DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT, DO YOUR HOMEWORK SUPER LAST MINUTE AND/OR AT 6AM BEFORE CLASS IF YOU HAVE PRE-CALC FIRST HOUR. You won't retain any of the material and it will be harder for you to understand it. Take your time to actually understand your homework/material. There are so many resources! Always do your homework. Homework is VERY important in this class. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR!
- To the students who are taking Precalc please understand that the homework is important in this class! It helps you understand a lot even if you don't understand it. Make sure you also ask questions as well and if you have Mr. Horvath he a good teacher just make sure you do your homework and on test don't over think questions just go with what you know and you can always retake it. Study sessions help a lot when you want to retake or even just staying after for extra help. Start the year strong and end the year strong! You got this!
- Don't get too cocky if you do great.
- Precalc is full of obstacles it will be hard if you do not study, do your homework, or miss a lot . The lessons go fast and you will learn something new every day, you will fall behind if you do not find a way to learn the material. If you need help, ASK! Study, study, study for test and quizzes! If you do not pass or get a low grade, RETAKE!
- Do your homework! Teachers can't stress that enough and some students still don't listen thinking that the homework assigned is pointless but that isn't true. Homework grades help a lot to boost up your grade and they help prepare you for your tests and quizzes. Precalculus is not like honors math, its faster considering you learn different material every day and the teachers don't hold the class back to make sure you have learned everything. In addition, do not miss school a lot and just enjoy everything you learn because it is actually interesting.
- Alright first thing first DON’T SKIP A DAY ditch after Precalc! I missed one day of Precalc in the whole entire school year and was completely lost for like the entire unit. Don’t listen to those who tell you that your grade will probably drop a letter grade from what you got in honors. Even though my grade did suffer I pulled through. Stay after school for extra help availability and retake, retake, retake! Don’t wait till the end of the semester to fix your grades. Do all your homework and tell your parents you love them!
- Based on my experience in Precalc the best way to be successful would be doing your homework every day and if you miss an assignment or if you're absent then still try to do the homework the next day so you don't fall behind.
- Precalc is a great class, just be consistent with your homework and always take time out of your day to study for the test, don't wait until the day before. Create a good relationship with your teacher and take advantage of the opportunities that your teachers will give you to raise your grade. Enjoy this class and only take it if you are going to Calc the following year! Have fun :)
- If you want to do good in the class do the effort. That means doing all the homework, studying until you understand the subject, retake if you must or do not like the score. Make time for the class. You may have other AP classes so manage your time wisely.
- As the year goes, I realized how important it is to study for a test, which I most likely did not, and not studying made a huge impact on my test scores.
- Coming to class every day is something crucial in having success in this class. You tend to learn something new every day. Once you start missing days, this class get difficult.
- Make sure you pay attention in class and make sure you do all your homework because it helps you understand the subject more, and the homework grade could make a big impact on your unit grade. Make sure you study for test and quizzes.
- The class is not easy so you should always pay attention in class. This is one of the few classes you should rarely miss and not only be here physically but mentally as well. They say you need to do your homework but you can definitely pass without doing your homework but it is recommended you do it. Always study too.
- GET AHEAD NOW! Use the syllabus to get ahead on the homework because the smallest slip up of not doing an assignment or missing two or more questions on the homework will affect your grade dramatically. Best to do two assignments in one day so you’re not rushing to retake any quizzes or make up exams while juggling late/missing assignments. Something that helped me stay afloat was KHAN ACADEMY specially if you don't understand the concept right away try looking for alternative methods to the problems because sometimes there's always more than one way to get the same answer that might be easier or faster when you’re in a time crunch. GOOD LUCK and stay focused don't let anything stand in the way of your goals!!
- 1) RETAKE IF YOU GET LESS THAN A 3.0 ON ALL YOUR TESTS!!! A 2.5 from the first unit test constantly anchored down my grade to a B. I didn't learn my lesson the 2nd semester and got stuck with a B, no matter how much I retook the test and quizzes and did all the homework. 2) DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK!!! It is essential to do your homework because Mr. Horvath doesn't slack off on checking them and he actually gives credit for it. Homework can bump up your grade a little. So if it's borderline and you complete the homework for the unit, it can bump you up to that C,B, or A. 3) NOTATION IS A PAIN IN THE A**!!! Make sure you completely check and double-check your quizzes and tests. Notation can bring your A to a mid-B. 4) MR. HORVATH IS NOT SCARY!!! Honestly, he seems scary at first, but he is an extremely great teacher. He goes straight to the point, does step-by-step instructions to help you, and explains it in easier terms if you still don't understand. He is the best math teacher I've ever had in my highschool career. Appreciate him, he is a gem.
- Pre-Calculus is a course to prepare you for next year AP Calculus AB OR BC, so if you don't plan to take Calculus overall next year, then don't take this class; If you are going to take this class, please do your homework, because it's going to help you make every unit a bit more simpler especially when taking the quizzes or tests. DON'T SKIP A DAY OF PRE-CALC unless it's family related business or a field trip with graphic arts or JSA, those I understand. Overall, Precalc is studying, learning and testing, but a fun class if you have the right group of people. Thank you.
- Go to class every day, and do your homework! Precalc isn't bad at all, just do what you're supposed to do.
- Do your homework yourself instead of copying, do the study guides ahead of time, use khan academy or other websites like that, do the Pearson online assignments and other extra credit stuff like IML, get a calculator, ask questions, retake as much stuff as you can, and that’s it.
- Hold onto all math sheets.
- "ALWAYS do your homework! It seems like it won’t affect you at all but it definitely will! You won’t do good on your tests & your grade WILL drop. And if you can retake something, retake it! Don’t leave a low grade simply because you’re passing b/c it’ll haunt you later on!
- Precalc isn’t easy, if you want to pass this class you need to do all your homework. Homework in this class is essential because if you don’t do it your grade will begin to lower. If I would have done all my homework I would have probably gotten a higher grade. On everything, please do your homework!
- Homework may just be 10% but it is worth it, it helps out much. Do all your assignments even if you don't get the homework just try to do your best you don't know how helpful they really are. Study hard for the test because the retakes are harder with less multiple choice and more performance questions.
- A word of advice, if you are really striving for a high grade don't feel discouraged if you get a bad score the first time around. Remember to study hard and do the retakes when you can. I also can't stress enough how important it is to do homework, it really does help you out in the long run. One last thing...if you’re feeling super stressed it’s okay to cry a little and let all the frustration out, maybe make a study group for this class if it’ll help you learn the material better. Aside from that I wish you the best of luck!
- The biggest piece of advice that is highly helpful and required is to do all the homework assignments. If your homework is not done or you just copy it then you will be lost on what the unit is about and how to properly solve problems.
- First of all I want to say that with perfect practice, motivation, and a great attitude nothing is impossible in this class. Of course at the beginning it all might seem terrifying but in order to succeed you must ALWAYS be determined to do your homework, study, and ask for help when needed. Good luck with Precalculus!
- I would 100% recommend to try to retake every test and as soon as possible. Try to do your review session the very first day it is available. In addition, if you don’t get something ask your teacher, and go home to review the things that you learned. Also, do your homework!
- Dear future Juniors, in order for you to be successful in Precalc you must do your homework, study for the test/ quizzes, and retake tests if your'e not happy with your grade.
- You will have the option to retake every single test and/or quiz from every unit. If you want to succeed, you must study the concept and know more than you already did. It is very important to study for a retake if you desire a higher grade. Please take this advice for future reference and STUDY. But before thinking of a retake, make sure you study hard to get a good grade on the first try. Retakes are proven to be harder and with absolutely NO multiple choice. Otherwise do your homework (do not copy) and study for each test and earn yourself an easy A. Good luck!
- Precalc is not complicated if you actually try to do all your work and do whatever it takes to understand the unit you are working in. Take your time to revise every lesson in class until you get to the point where you are sure you are capable of working with it with no problems. Do not stress, take time, be prepare, and do your all.
- Just do your homework, don't copy! Try the problem first then ask for help. Look up videos and tutorials if you need any additional help. "Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail" so always study and good luck.
- One important advice that I can give is doing your homework, although it might seem it’s only a 10% grade it really can help you boost up your grade when your test wasn't so well. Another advice is doing a retake on a quiz/test, even if you got a low score but still passed I recommend retaking it to get a better grade.
- Sooo one of the biggest regrets I have that could have changed my grade dramatically is DOING THE HW. Make sure you complete it every day! Also try to at least see your teacher for help at least once every 2 weeks. Study! Ask questions! Participate in class, it’s something everyone should do! And literally try to be in class everyday. It’s pretty hard to catch up! But at the end of the day it’s all about what YOU want to accomplish!
- To be honest, Pre calc won’t always be easy and the only way to succeed in this class is to focus. Always do your homework and complete the study guides, and remember study to understand the concept not just to memorize it. Also, be consistent and attend class because by missing even just one day will back track your understanding of what’s going on in the unit. Although this is a fast moving class, it is easy when you do what you are supposed to do. Good luck!
- You should fallow all of the notes taken in class and get good scores for all the quizzes and tests. You also should retake the quizzes of tests if you got a low score.
- Beware, the unit circle, never goes away.
- Take advantage of the time Mr. B stays after school. He stays pretty late most days and all he truly wants is for you to do the best you can do. This class is challenging but fun. Mr. B is one of the kindest people I have ever met. His love for math has made me love math even more, do not take him for granted. Also, do not be afraid to need or want help. He understands how challenging this could be for you. Do your homework. It is good practice. I know sometimes it can be tiring, you have it pretty much every night. But the homework is really just to help you. The more problems you work out, the better off you are for the test. Good luck. Have a great year!
- Do your homework, or at least half! The importance of it is so you practice, not the 10% it counts for in the grade book. Also, take advantage of retakes!
- If you want to succeed -- Never Memorize something, instead have an Aha moment and learn it.
- Always do your homework when it's given and if your're absent, do the the homework still because your gonna fall behind or you won't get the target. Study your notes a day or to prior the test or quiz. Keep all your notes for the final, which will make it easier to remember the past targets. When finals come, do all the problems and refresh your memory of that target. Good luck in Preclac. It's a great class.
- Just remember to remember trig. It is used in most units.
- If Precalc isn't one of your favorite classes because of the work, it'll probably be fun because of the people in it. My advice would just be not to worry as much about this class, still work hard on it and make friends. Sometimes, there was homework assignments that I didn't get at all, and that's why it was important to have those friends/connections. We helped each other get through it.
- Hey future student! Do all your homework, that’s what will balance out your grade if you don’t do well on tests. Study for quizzes and tests. Try not to miss class because you will fall behind. Persevere even if you are taking a lot of AP classes, even though this is an honors class it is a challenge! Try your best!
- Just make sure to do your homework and don't miss any days because if you do then it's going to be very hard to catch up, and of course enjoy the class too.
- Make sure you do your homework! The more you practice each problem the better you will get! Don't be afraid to ask for help for help, Mr. Horvath is such a great teacher that is willing to help any of his students.
- Precalc is honestly a very good class. It is easy to pass and get good grades if you try your hardest and make sure you ask for help when you need it. It is very much possible to pass if you use your resources and don't copy your way through the homework assignments because then the tests will become very hard to complete.
- Work hard in this class, and do homework accurately and perfectly. Everything the teacher puts on the bored, write it down! And last but not least, Good Luck!
- Come to school every day.
- Do your homework everyday as it helps you practice for upcoming tests. Also study days before and don't just cram before the test. Make sure you retake quizzes or tests when you don't meet your goal- but remember that the retake is much harder but there's nothing that can't be accomplished. Always be productive in class and ask for help when you need it. You'll feel sorry if you don't ask.
- DO YOUR HOMEWORK b/c it makes this class so much easier. If you can't do that just drop out of this class.
- Try, try, try. Fail? Try again. It’s trial and error, you will feel discouraged, but remember there are people to help you. Take advantage of your resources. Do the homework, especially if you miss days. Good luck and welcome to Precalc!
- Just make sure to complete the homework, teachers aren't so forgiving for missing assignments.
- Make studying a priority otherwise you'll be coming in for retakes repetitiously like me. Retakes are way harder, trust me.
- Always do your homework and study whenever you have the time. If you do not actually try you will surely regret it later. Don't be afraid to ask for help or be wrong; you have to in order to learn. I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming endeavors.
- DO NOT MISS CLASS! No matter how much you want to, don't!
- Persevere through problems; don't give up, look in the book for help if you don't get it!
- Do the optional Pearson assignments for extra practice! It helps to practice more because it will prepare you better for assessments.
- The most important thing to remember when taking this class is to try. That does NOT mean try to copy homework from your friend before class starts. Actually, do the homework. No one succeeds by saying they can't do it.
- Don't fall behind or else it’s going to really impact you, so that means: DO NOT MISS SCHOOL/ CLASS!
- Always try to work on a problem. Even if you don’t know, try it out because it’s better to get some credit, then no credit at all.
- Upcoming Precalc students, I will give you my best advice which is always do your homework, you may think 10% isn't a lot for you grade but trust me, it does help your grade. DO NOT COPY, it will not help you because that's the only practice you get. Don't overthink throughout a test or quiz, go with your gut feeling. Always study! Mr.Horvath is a really good teacher, good luck!
- Precalc can be tiring with the homework every day, because there were points where I felt like this was too hard for me but in reality there was just certain units that were challenging! Now that I look back I understand that it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it was, anybody can do Precalc if you’re REALLY determined and do your homework every day. Good luck to the new students. Mr.B is great at teaching and telling his stories.
